The Only Carnivore Diet Guide You Will Ever Need
In a Nutshell
The core message is that visceral fat—not visible weight or BMI—drives most disease, and eliminating it requires removing processed carbs, seed oils, and constant eating while adding live microbes through fermented foods. The protocol centers on a “live carnivore” diet (animal products plus fermented items), sprint-style movement, and meal timing, with MRI scans to track internal fat loss instead of scale readings. Key results include stable energy, improved sleep, muscle gain, and reversal of organ fat without drugs or hormones.

There is a type of fat that the mirror will never show you. Neither the scale nor even the annual checkup will reveal it. These fats accumulate around your organs, and are the actual driver of the disease that kills most men and women. Dr. Shona Meera monitored it via MRI scans in more than 6,000 people during a 7-year study for the National Science Foundation. Dr. Meera is a physician, researcher, and retired U.S. Army colonel.
The goal of this system is visceral fat disease. This was not part of the medical school curriculum, nor was it included in the training programs that doctors undergo during their specialization. Doctors have been given the wrong goals like bathroom scales, calories in and out, calorie counting, and BMI. When you don't keep track of visceral fat, it's like a runner watching the leaves he passes while running instead of focusing on the speed at which the runner runs.
Dr. Meera shows pictures of herself just before starting her National Science Foundation study. She looks like an ordinary person, but doesn't look like she does today. The change occurred over an 11-year period. Most people would think she weighed more in the before picture, but she weighs more today. The reason is that she got rid of her fat disease and gained healthy tissue, such as muscle. The same change will be visible in personal photos once visceral fat is eliminated.
There are two types of fat: subcutaneous fat, which is the soft fat that you can pinch on the outside, and visceral fat disease, which is the inflammatory fat stacked around your organs, deep in your abdomen, around your heart, and even the fat inside your muscles. Subcutaneous fat is largely cosmetic. Visceral fat disease surrounds the heart and lines muscles. In MRI scans, fat appears white, which is very distinctive. Muscles, organs, and bones appear dark. You can't determine disease versus health in a DEXA scan or smart scale.
TOFI means thin on the outside and fat on the inside. This means having very little fat outside the body compared to the amount of fat inside. This is called hidden obesity. People walk around and others say they're fine and not heavy, but they are both obese. It's simply invisible and buried inside them. Visceral fat disease can't be pinched, felt, or seen unless you have an MRI scan.
MRI images of a real client show the person appearing mostly white on the inside originally, where the white color represents visceral fat disease. After three months, the client reduced their visceral fat disease significantly. The barrel chest and barrel belly transformed into a flat stomach. The muscles grew by approximately 40% in 3 months for an 87-year-old person. This was achieved without steroids, hormones, peptides, stem cells, or any performance-enhancing drugs.
Benefits include stable energy throughout the day with no spikes in blood sugar, no breakdowns that rob energy, and no wall of fatigue at 2 PM. Sleep improves with complete recovery, more stable blood sugar levels while sleeping, and fewer awakenings at 3 a.m. There are fewer infections. By eliminating carbohydrates, especially processed carbohydrates and seed oils, hidden aches and pains fade away. Mental clarity improves and mood becomes more stable because the brain gets a steady supply of fuel throughout the day. Digestion becomes simpler and more efficient once foods irritating the intestines are eliminated.
Additional benefits include more stable blood sugar and insulin levels, better metabolic health, better energy, better physiology at the cellular level and even at the organ level. Body composition improves by preserving muscles while getting rid of the disease. The meat-eating diet achieves most of these benefits but eventually stops for a specific reason.
People try low-carb, keto, paleo, meat-eaters, and Mediterranean diets and say they didn't suit them. For some, a simple meat-eating diet is not sustainable. The difference is the microbes. Ancestors had a completely different microbiome. Followers of the meat-eating diet today still have a different microbiome. Unless you take advantage of your microbiome as ancestors did, you are destined to fail.
Ancestors had an abundance of wonderful, health-enhancing microbes. They obtained these in their bodies daily when they ate meat. Store meats today are prepared in a sanitized and semi-sterile environment with chemical disinfectants and packaging materials. Ancestors had live microbes every time they drank and every time they ate meat. This is the one thing the modern meat-eater's plate is missing: live microbes.
The solution is to bring the living part - live microbes - back into the meat. This is called the living diet. It is different from any other diet because you eat living food, and it actually improves your life when you do.
The lion's diet consists of only beef, ruminant meat, salt, water, and nothing else. It's a great approach if you have a microbiome that allows you to continue with it, but for most people, they cannot tolerate it or continue with it.
The standard carnivore diet includes all animal products such as beef, as well as seafood, poultry, and game. The carnivorous form is based on animals and is very common, but you can eat sweet things like honey and fruit. The problem with that is glycation, which ages tissues and makes organs look older. Glycation accelerates the aging process, increases inflammation severity, and robs health.
The live meat-eater diet is the diet Dr. Meera follows, eating animal products in addition to fermented live foods, vegetables, and even fermented fruit, but without any carbohydrates. When fruits and vegetables are fermented, they eliminate carbohydrates and retain all beneficial nutrients, adding beneficial metabolites that help increase peptides, plus live microbes that can enter the body and live inside it.
Step 1: Determine the starting point by photographing your entire body including face, chest, abdomen, back, arms, sides, hands, feet, spider veins, hair, and scalp. Track all of that and get an MRI scan to see diseases inside the body.
Step 2: Choose your version from Unit Five. For most people, start with a basic meat-eater diet, then move on to a live meat-eater diet.
Step 3: What to buy includes grass-fed beef or bison as the standard, game meat as the best, and seafoods caught from the wild. Only buy fermented, full-fat, unprocessed dairy products. Avoid cheaper varieties fed on grains that are high in trans fats or contain interfering fats.
Step 4: In the first week, expect some fatigue as you shift away from a dysfunctional microbiome dependent on carbohydrates. You may experience headaches, intense cravings for carbohydrates and processed foods, and some changes in your digestive tract. Your fuel switches from carbohydrates to ketone bodies produced from fat stores. Take supplements of essential electrolytes because you lose more electrolytes while burning fats. Maintain fluid levels and drink from glass, not plastic.
Don't be afraid of fat. Eat as much of the animal's body as possible, eating all its parts from head to tail. Tendons, ligaments, and cartilage are amazing sources of nutrition. Gradually start eating other cuts of meat and more things than previously eaten from the animal.
The golden rule states that health is measured by how easily you can go to the bathroom. The ejection process should only take 3 to 7 seconds. It should feel like a natural reaction with complete relief. Urination should take 20 to 21 seconds for complete bladder emptying with no leakage, dripping, or weak flow.
Step 6: For social situations like going to a neighbor's house for dinner, a relative's house, or to a restaurant, bring small quantities of fermenters in small glass containers or baby food containers. It doesn't take much of these live foods to properly complement meals.
Step 7: When dealing with objections from others saying things like I'm worried about how much weight you're losing, show them the pictures explaining the difference and say I'm in the past, no thanks. I don't want to look like that. Or when getting an MRI scan, say with all this fat around my heart, no thanks. I'm never going back to that.

The first lever is activated by eating this way, eliminating processed foods, carbohydrates, preservatives, and seed oils that contribute to disease, raise insulin levels, and allow storage of the wrong type of fat including visceral fat, fatty diseases, heart fat, and muscle fat.
Evidence comes from a 68-year-old executive director client who showed visceral fat as pinkish-red substance in the middle of MRI scans. After just two weeks, significant reduction occurred. The protruding belly transformed into defined abdominal muscles. Muscle fat also improved within two weeks and completely disappeared by week 35. This was achieved simply by getting rid of processed foods, especially processed carbohydrates, without any exercise.
The second lever is how you move. Sprint running is the favorite form of exercise with short, very intense bursts until extremely short of breath, approximately 10 to 20 seconds for a sprinter, then rest, recover, and repeat. These pulses lead to hormone rises that tell the body to burn harmful fat and build muscle. This can be replaced with any form of high-intensity exercise if unable to run, but get doctor's approval first.
A 58-year-old man had an amazing response from including sprinting in his exercise routine. He was implementing the strategies from the National Science Foundation study but still had continuous pathological visceral fat despite running 10 miles a day, 5 days a week. After switching from running to jogging, the only change between stages was visible in less than two months. He built muscle and got rid of the disease simply by stopping running and starting to jog.
The third lever is meal timing. Stop eating constantly. Constant snacking keeps insulin levels elevated throughout the day. This is not a normal pattern unless you are a cow. Humans are designed to go through periods where they do not eat and allow the body to recover.
A vegetarian diet can help reduce visceral fat, but it is slower and requires more patience and more discipline. GLP-1 drugs show impressive study results when used appropriately. GLP-1 drugs are receptor agonists that turn on a switch in the body. GLP receptors remain active for a very long time. When the body naturally makes the hormone GLP and sends that signal to the receptor, the effect is short-lived as just a pulse. Nature is always best. The natural strategy of pulsing GLP-1 and other peptides is the optimal pathway. GLP-1 drugs are a cheaper, simpler, and lazier way to get results, but not a better way, and will be more dangerous with more side effects.
Dr. Meera personally would not take GLP-1 medications and works with clients using natural strategies. If taking GLP-1 medications, get an MRI scan to see what is happening inside the body. There is a big difference between natural GLP-1 and the synthetic type.
When disease leaves the body, people seem to be doing much better. They feel better and perform better. A client named Joe came at age 63 looking like an ordinary 63-year-old man. After only 6 months with no drugs, steroids, hormones, peptides, stem cells, or GLP-1 drugs, only completely natural strategies focusing on visceral fat, fat around the heart, and fat in the muscles, the transformation was significant. Joe is now smiling. Dr. Meera weighed 165 pounds in the before picture and weighs 178 pounds in the after picture. Today Dr. Meera weighs about 177 pounds. The change occurred because the disease was eliminated.
